SHAUN Underdown scored on his return to the field as Winnington Park picked up where they left off when they beat Marple three weeks earlier.

The prop touched down their fourth try at Burrows Hill last weekend, securing for the hosts a bonus point, in a display that included spells of play that left head coach Roger Pickering feeling happy.

“At times we were sublime,” he reflected.

His side aim to register three successive wins for the first time this season in South Lancs/Cheshire Division Two when they visit Ruskin Park this Saturday, kick off 3pm.

They have won four of their past five at Burrows Hill, and were on their way to the latest of those when Alex Glendinning sped through a gap in the visitors’ defence to touch down between the posts.

Cameron Flanagan duly added the extras.

Park made poor decisions when they created other opportunities until Josh Brown, who made his debut for Cheshire’s under 20s last month, notched a fine solo score.

Flanagan again converted.

They went unpunished at the other end despite conceding a series of penalties, standing firm against heavier opponents when they were put under pressure.

Flanagan slotted a penalty to increase their lead to which the visitors replied with a three-pointer of their own.

Wing Josh Gibbins then added his name to the scoresheet before the break when he burst past the last man of a tiring defence, leaving Flanagan with a simple task to convert.

Underdown then entered the fray at the start of the second period, applying the finishing flourish to a move that flowed from one side of the field to another after the ball passed through several pairs of hands.

Flanagan’s extras left Park 31-3 in front.

A scrappy finale followed, during which replacement Nic Clawson showed his pace out wide before dotting down a fifth try.

Oldershaw had the final say, claiming a consolation try when Winnington’s players lost concentration on the blind-side of a ruck.
