WINNINGTON Park Ladies resume their season this weekend with a double-header against rivals for promotion from the Cheshire Women’s League.

Captain Rhona Logie is confident her side is prepared for the challenge after an encouraging first-half of the campaign that sees them start 2018 occupying second spot in the table.

“We’ve improved since September,” she told the Guardian.

“Our first few games highlighted areas we needed to be better in, and we worked on them in training before putting them into practice on the pitch.

“We trust each other, and have started to reach each other’s movement. That’s allowed us to be more creative going forward.”

“In defence we’re settled and consistent – communication back there is excellent and that provides options for our midfield players.”

Park host Bowdon thirds at Moss Farm on Saturday, opponents with whom they shared eight goals during a thrilling draw in November.

The teams are level on points, although the Northwich-based outfit have a superior goal-difference.

They are scheduled to visit Division One leaders Alderley Edge seconds 24 hours later for a rearranged game after the original encounter was postponed.

Logie hopes set-piece drills will pay dividend in both games.

She added: “We’re great at scoring from open play, and win a high number of short-corners.

“However we don’t convert enough of them into goals; if we can take advantage better of those situations, then we can really punish our opponents.

“Our target has always been to finish in the table’s top-half, although I try not to focus too much on that or what other sides are doing.

“We’ll worry more about how we prepare for each match, and continuing to make sure we have a positive mind-set.”
