TIGERS sent a warning to their rivals for the Mid-Cheshire Super League title when they whitewashed a Raptors side able only to field two players on the season’s opening night.

It was a similar story for Wreckers, who were emphatic victors against depleted guests Cobras.

Jeff Mee’s success a fifth-set decider against Helena Dennett prevented a whitewash for the visitors.

Dave Nelson recorded a pair of singles victories for Manweb at Sparks, where he recovered from losing a one-sided opener against Dave Southall.

However the home team still proved too strong in an 8-2 win.

Daresbury prevailed in a tactical battle – one that captain Norbert Collomb admits was closer than the score-line suggests – with Bears to take an early lead in Division Two.

They are trailed by fellow fast-starters Hawks and Lemmings, who saw off Winsford Locke and Valiants respectively.

Wanderers fought hard in an 8-2 reverse at Vikings in Division Three, with Les Gilbert particularly unlucky to lose an epic struggle with Andy Ingleby that went all the way.

The doubles rubber was settled only in a fifth set too.

Elsewhere Rangers saw off Kinetics, and visiting Wolves edged a close encounter with Snakes.
