STUART Kellett bids to secure a spot at the Professional Darts Corporation World Championships for the first time since 2014 in a qualifier on Monday.

The Northwich thrower has missed out narrowly on each of his past two attempts, reaching the quarter-finals last year after making the last four 12 months earlier.

There are three places up for grabs in Milton Keynes this time around.

However the 36-year-old, eliminated in the first round on each of his three previous appearances at Alexandra Palace, knows what it takes to get through.

He won the qualifying competition in 2012, beating John Bowles in the final to clinch a date in the capital with Vincent van der Voort.

What happens?

A draw is scheduled for 11am.

The 16 highest-ranked players on the PDC Order of Merit to enter are seeded, while the rest are paired randomly.

All games are the best of nine legs.

What are the prizes?

The winner of the PDPA World Championships qualifier will enter the first-round draw.

Meanwhile the runner-up will enter the competition proper at the preliminary round stage.

A 6-3 victory for Dimitri Van den Bergh in the PDC Unicorn World Youth Championships final against Josh Payne on Sunday means a third place has become available.

In those circumstances, a play-off will decide who progresses to the world championships preliminary round along with the runner-up.

The player that finishes fourth will receive £1,000 in prize money, while those that exit at the quarter-finals stage receive £500 each.

How can I follow what’s happening?

The qualifiers will be streamed live by SKY Sports on their Facebook page and online at skysports.com/darts

The PDC also posts results online at pdc.tv

And then what?

A draw for this year’s world championships will be broadcast live on SKY Sports News at around 1830 on Monday.

The on-stage action at Alexandra Palace in London is scheduled to start on December 14.
