SIMON Lafferty fared better by himself than all of Sparks’ previous opponents combined during the latest qualifying round games for the Mid-Cheshire Super League.
He recorded singles successes against Dave Southall and John Perry for Raptors, although it wasn’t enough to avoid a 7-3 defeat.
Sparks sit top of Group One after six straight wins.
Tigers whitewashed Hawks, while Victoria and Wreckers remain on course to secure top-flight places after recording emphatic 9-1 wins at Cobras and Bears respectively.
Lemmings ended a wait for their first victory, edging out Manweb.
Winsford kept pace with the other leading teams in Group Two despite only Mark Baker and Garry Owen being available for a 6-4 win at Wolves.
Phil Lingwood replied with a brace of wins for their opponents.
Three singles rubbers went to a final-set decider during Vikings’ meeting with Snakes, Andy Beswick prevailing in two of those to help the latter to a 6-4 victory.
Kinetics shared the spoils with Rangers after a draw, while Daresbury recorded a fifth victory in six fixtures after seeing off Valiants.
Meanwhile Nigel Spratt was the only Romans player to register a success in a 9-1 reverse at Sticklebacks.
