BARNTON Wanderers secured a spot in the Mid-Cheshire District FA Challenge Cup quarter-finals in style after scoring seven times without reply against Winsford United’s reserves.

In-form Joel Hind scored four goals, while strikes from Eamon Byrne, Daniel Stockton and Tom Yarwood sent their side through as winners of Group A.

Over 3 Grange join them at the next stage despite losing by the odd goal against Winnington Avenue, with whom they finished level on points.

Joe Standish scored twice for the Winsford-based team while Daniel Bellfield, Richard Hulse and Joe O’Connell netted for the victors.

Winsford Saxons, who lifted the trophy the season before last, squeezed through at the expense of Witton Albion’s reserves as a reward for a 2-1 win.

Joe Pointon and Andy Whitney were both on target.

They follow table-toppers Middlewich Town reserves into the last eight after the Witches recorded a third successive win, this time against Winnington 1994.

Jamie Garner, Michael Hickson and substitute Daniel Martin all scored in a 3-1 win at Jubilee Field.

Cheshire League sides Rudheath Social, the current holders, Lostock Gralam, Middlewich Town and Cuddington complete the quarter-finals line-up.

A draw for the next stage is scheduled for Thursday.
