Maine Road 1 Winsford United 4
WINSFORD United were made to work hard on Monday night before running out comfortable victors.
They made safe the points with a quarter hour left when Daley Woods danced around a back-marker before blasting in Blues’ third goal.
It propels them to ninth in the table.
The visitors had gone close twice through Jamie Henders and then Matthew Ward before the latter opening the scoring from a rebound after goalkeeper Ryan Livesey had saved his initial effort.
At the other end, custodian Andrew Jones denied Andrew Kilheeney a leveller early in the second period before Henders claimed the first of his two goals after collecting Ward’s pass.
Andy Hurst fluffed a face-to-face with Livesey before Woods’ goal settled the outcome, although Maine Road reduced their arrears almost immediately through Neil Chappell’s drive from distance.
