RUDHEATH Private C, who upset the odds to beat mid Cheshire’s best team in last season’s final, start the defence of their title on Monday.

The holders, conquerors of Wharton Cons A to score their ‘best ever’ victory according to captain Peter Gough, meet Comberbach B at Winnington Rec.

Promoted to Section Four of the Mid-Cheshire Bowling Association this term, the underdogs have a 32-chalks headstart on their opponents.

Elsewhere the men from the Tin Mission, victors in 2008, face a tricky test to overhaul Hartford B’s 120-chalks handicap at Moulton RBL.

Fellow top tier big guns Castle Private A will endure a similarly difficult challenge against Barnton CC B, while Frodsham Red Lion A start 42-chalks adrift of Barnton CC A at Norley.

There is an intriguing contest at Delamere, where Owley Wood A take on their clubmates.

Most of those in action were foes last term as Owley Wood B’s squad is made up mainly of bowlers who turned out for Winnington A – who battled with their Weaverham counterparts to avoid relegation – in Section One.

Winsford Cons A, against Crosstown, are the other high fliers in action this week.

Matches start at 6.30pm.
