WITTON Albion have turned to a Football Conference striker to score the goals to fire them towards the top of the Evo-Stik Division One North summit.

Front runner Ashley Stott could make his debut at Curzon Ashton tomorrow, Saturday, after switching to Wincham Park from Hyde United.

“I’m hoping Ashley can find the net for us in the same way he has at his other clubs,” said Witton manager Paul Ogden.

“It’s no secret that I’ve been looking to strengthen in that area of the field but every side will say the same; they want a 20-goals-a-season striker.

“We’re no different.”

Stott, 22, scored 30 goals in 59 starts in a three-years spell with Bangor City before agreeing to play for ex-Albion boss Jim Vince at FC Halifax Town two years ago.

He returned to the Welsh Premier League with the Citizens last year.

A transfer to Blue Square Bet North club Hyde followed earlier this summer but the former Preston North End junior has failed to break into the first team.

He arrives at Wincham Park along with fellow Tigers man Lee Pugh, a left back.

Ogden added: “I’m grateful to [Hyde manager] Neil Tolson for his assistance in enabling me to sign these lads together in time for the weekend.

“It would not have been possible to include them in the squad had he not done.”

Pugh, 18, is a former Bury junior.

He provides competition for Paul Harrison, Danny Warner and Matthew Wood down Albion’s left flank.

“Lee is versatile and gives us alternatives on that side of the pitch,” said Ogden.
