WITTON Albion were within four minutes of a precious victory that would have secured them a first round place in the FA Trophy.

Mark Haran’s late leveller earned Matlock Town a second chance to beat Gary Finley’s men, who had led through Brad Maylett’s first half opener.

The hosts, shorn of injured trio Paul Booth, Mike Moseley and Carl Ruffer, recalled Brian Pritchard to the starting line-up.

Their UniBond Premier Division opponents, unbeaten in their past seven league and cup encounters, lost keeper Adam Sollitt and front man Dene Cropper to injury before Haran saved them from defeat.

The two teams – who will both by in Monday’s first round draw when all the Blue Square Premier’s clubs enter the competition – will meet at Causeway Lane for a replay on Tuesday, November 24, kick off 7.45pm.
