NORTHWICH RUFC claimed bragging rights with a commanding win in a high-scoring 'derby' against Winnington Park.
Blacks defeated the visitors to Moss Farm 55-17 in a match played in front of a large crowd despite challenging weather conditions.
The game Regional 2 North West saw the debut of Northwich coach Cameron Neild, who made an immediate impact by scoring the opening try with his first touch of the ball.
Winnington Park responded with a penalty, but Northwich quickly extended their lead.
Man-of-the-match Njabulo Shabangu crossed the line following a well-executed lineout, with Sam Coles adding the conversion.
It took until the 25th minute for Northwich to score again, with Charlie Worsfold finishing off a strong run from Shabangu, who was supported by Kgopotso Matlena.
Two minutes later, Worsfold added his second try after a move involving Shabangu and Jono Knipe.
As the first half ended, Hughwan Engelbrecht scored a solo try from inside his own half, giving Northwich a commanding 29-3 lead at the break.
Winnington Park started the second half with more intent, forcing a turnover and eventually scoring a converted try after a series of rucks near the Northwich line.
But Northwich regained control in the 65th minute, with Shabangu finishing an attack that started deep in their own half.
Harry Naylor converted and went on to add two more conversions before the final whistle.
The first came after Engelbrecht scored his second try following a pass from Shabangu, and the second after a quick-tap penalty led to a try from Knipe.
Winnington Park had the final say with a late converted try, but it was little more than consolation on an afternoon that firmly belonged to Northwich.
The match was also notable for the return of Joe Burns and the absence of Richard Dale through injury, but it was Neild’s debut and the team’s attacking flair that took centre stage.
Northwich, who have moved up to fifth in the table, will travel to Widnes for their next fixture on Saturday, kick-off 3pm, while bottom side Winnington Park host Douglas from Isle of Man at the Will Glendinning Memorial Ground.
