WITTON Albion are heading into their big FA Cup tie on Saturday on a winning note.
Ben Harrison’s side visit National League North high-flyers South Shields in the second qualifying round this weekend hoping to pull off another upset having beaten Northern Premier League Premier Division side Avro in the last round.
And they will make the trip to Tyneside having got themselves back to winning ways in midweek by beating Lower Breck at the Bedspace Trust Community Stadium.
Albion went into the game keen to bounce back from their defeat at Mossley on Saturday, and they did just that thanks to a goal in either half to secure a 2-0 victory.
Jacob Hamman put Witton in front just before half time before Freddy Garbutt netted the killer second goal just shy of the hour mark to leave them sixth in the NPL West Division table.
If Witton’s cup tie on Saturday ends in a draw, they will host a replay on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, 1874 Northwich remain in the division’s relegation zone and without a win on the road this season following their midweek trip to Hanley Town.
Rory Fallon’s men were beaten 3-0 in Staffordshire as they found a poor start to the game too much to recover from, with Lewis Porter and Jack Twyford having struck for the hosts inside the game’s first quarter before Callum Middleton sealed their victory late on.
It’s another double game week for Greens this week, starting with a return to home soil on Saturday as they welcome Nantwich Town to Townfield Lane.
They are then back on the road on Tuesday evening with a trip to Mossley.
