WINSFORD United’s superb start to the season shows no signs of slowing down.

On Saturday afternoon, Blues recorded their eighth victory from nine Midland Football League Premier Division matches to continue apace at the top of the table.

Indeed, they already sit a huge 11 points clear at the summit, albeit with several teams around them having played fewer games, after winning 3-0 at West Didsbury & Chorlton.

Jordan Johnson netted twice for Dean Jones and Dom Johnson’s side, with Danny Guiver scoring their other goal in another comfortable victory.

Elsewhere, Witton Albion saw their recent good run in the Northern Premier League West Division brought to an end.

Ben Harrison’s side travelled to Mossley looking to make it five league games and solidify their place in the play-offs, but they returned having fallen to a 1-0 defeat.

Charlie Frost scored the only goal for the hosts just after the hour mark as they picked up their first home victory of the season.

Meanwhile, 1874 Northwich picked up their first point on the road this season – but they may be cursing their luck that they didn’t leave Atherton Collieries with all three points.

Ben Crane had given Rory Fallon’s side the lead just shy of the half-hour mark and that looked like being enough for a precious victory until Liam Shepperd plundered a 90th-minute leveller for the hosts to snatch a 1-1 draw.

In the FA Vase, it was mixed fortunes for our sides as Northwich Victoria progressed but Barnton exited the competition.

Vics had debutant Lucas Edwards – signed on dual-registration from neighbours 1874 – to thank for their win at Darwen as he netted the winner in their 3-2 victory.

That came after Lee Duckworth’s side had twice been pegged back – Elliot Rokka and Will Bentley had both struck to give them the lead but they could not shake their hosts off until Edwards landed the killer blow.

For Barnton, it was penalty shoot-out heartbreak as they were knocked out by Parkgate at Townfield Lane in a tie played on Friday evening.

The Villagers had been 2-0 up at the break after making a flying start, with Raion Rowe and Callum Sandle both scoring inside the first 10 minutes.

However, the visitors had pulled level by the midway point of the second half before edging the shoot-out 7-6.
