AFTER their FA Cup heroics at the weekend, Witton Albion were back in league action on Tuesday night.

However, they could not follow up their victory at higher-ranked Avro with another victory as they were pegged back to a 1-1 draw by Wythenshawe at the Bedspace Trust Community Stadium.

Things had started well for Ben Harrison’s side as they took the lead after just 11 minutes – Tom Hoyle was found by James Steele’s cross and when his effort was saved, Jim Lawrie was well-placed to convert the rebound.

Their lead did not last until the break, though, as the visitors responded through Darius Palma as he curled an equaliser beyond Albion keeper Cameron Terry.

Neither side could find a winner and as a result, both are side-by-side in the Northern Premier League West Division play-off places – Wythenshawe in sixth are a point and a place higher up the table than Witton.

Harrison’s men now move on to a trip to Mossley on Saturday.

Elsewhere, having been denied a victory in injury time on Saturday, Barnton were on the right side of the late drama on Tuesday as Cheadle Heath Nomads visited Townfield Lane in the North West Counties League First Division South.

The Villagers looked to be heading for a second home stalemate in a week having been pegged back to a 2-2 draw by Foley Meir at the weekend, but Callum Sandle struck a 91st-minute winner to secure a 1-0 victory for them.

Barnton have now stretched their unbeaten run to eight games ahead of another home game against Parkgate in the FA Vase on Friday.
