Ladies County, Mavis Dearden semi-final

After finishing second in their group, Mid Cheshire Ladies qualified for a semi-final spot in the Mavis Dearden competition.

They were drawn against a strong South Yorkshire team.

Results for the away tie at Hallamshire Proprietary Bowling Club: Debbie Talbot 21-13 Wendy Allen, Jackie Fraser 19-21 Sandra Gillfedder, Janet Bisatt 21-12 Sophie Riley, Danielle Miles 21-20 Pamela Thompson, Karen Dennis 19-21 Kiera Wharton, Michelle Bowley 15-21 Jackie Ollier, Andrea Ainley 12-21 Judith Lickley, Samantha Butcher 16-21 Sarah Thompson, Elizabeth Wiltshire 21-15 Hazel Williams, Joanne Clark 21-13 Dot Barker, Jayne Kent 21-10 Emma Webb, Sarah Clarke 21-11 Samantha Murray.

Having five winners away from home is a great result for Mid Cheshire.

South Yorkshire came out on top at home 228-199.

Results for the home tie: Nicola Boulton 21-19 Jodie Dickinson, Andrea Bell 21-7 Anna Wilson, Sue Worrall 18-21 Hilary Bennett, Tamsin Birkett 21-14 Dianne Burridge, Viv Raddy 14-21 Jane Buchan, Stacey Linegar Orange 21-10 Sue Hill, Jennifer Oultram 15-21 Abbie-jo Rhodes, Kathryn Chadwick 21-18 Yvonne Hamilton, Carly Williams 18-21 Fearn Melaine, Dawn Nield 21-18 Vicki Walton, Debbie Williams 15-21 Jenny Wilby, Sarah Johnson 14-21 Kerry Brown.

Mid Cheshire won their home match 220-212, but on aggregate Mid Cheshire fell 21 chalks short.

Interesting to note that all the Mid Cheshire players, home and away, reached at least double figures.

The last couple of years Mid Cheshire have been recruiting bowlers and it is starting to show in their results.


Mid Cheshire League, Premier

First place Wharton Bowls Club A won their 15th straight game with a good win at Crewe Post Office 166-182. Tom Vickers 21-5 was the standout win for Wharton.

Frodsham Red Lion and Castle Sports A had a bruising game at Frodsham 177-167. Steve Morrey 21-3 was top performer.

Third place Victoria A had eight winners in their 198-127 home victory against Shavington A. Victoria’s Rob Eaton 21-5 was the star turn.

Andy Hamman 21-1 was the best winner for Barnton CC A in their away loss 189-155 against Comberbach A.

Castle Sports B had nine winners in their 202-132 home win against Owley Wood A. Chris Morris 21-8 had the best win.

Kingswood won their home match 192-125 against Rudheath Bowls A. David Hughes 21-8 was the pick of the bunch.

Section One

Castle Sports C had seven winners in their home 178-156 win against Comberbach B. Craig Shaw 21-5 was Castle’s best winner.

Wharton Bowls Club B had eight winners in their 198-142 home victory against Rudheath Bowls B. Brian Larkin and Gareth Evans 21-9 shared the best win.

Crosstown had five winners at home to Castle Sports D in their 189-172 home win. George Riley and Steve Orentice both achieved best-of-the-night 21-7 cards.

Owley Wood B had five winners in their close home victory 183-173 against Victoria B. Paul Charlesworth was the standout win 21-10.

Moulton RBL A had four winners against visitors Meadowbank A but it was the away team who won the match 178-190. Phil Wingfield 21-9 had the best result.

Section Two

Luka Jones Dakic 21-5 was the standout winner in Comberbach C’s home loss 172-178 against Tarporley A.

Home side Fern Villa had eight winners in their 202-140 win against Davenham B. Alison Harrison 21-3 had the best result.

Davenham A won their home match 200-158 against Owley Wood C. Steve Nelson 21-6 caught the eye.

John Greatbanks 21-8 was the standout win as Helsby B won their home match 195-161 against Sandbach Park.

Kelsall had five winners in their home 186-171 win against Middlewich A. Elizabeth Johnson and Phil Hughes both won 21-9.

Section Three

David Evans 21-7 was top of the shot for Wharton Rec A in their home victory 186-163 against second place Crowton.

Barnton CC C had two 21-8 wins courtesy of Cathy Hughes and Kath Johnson in their 146-185 away win against Tarporley B.

Brian Davies 21-11 helped Winnington A in their 197-171 victory against Owley Wood D. This keeps Winnington firmly at the top of Section Three.

Shavington B had a 183-150 home victory against Winnington B. Robert Bibby 21-4 had the best win.

Cuddington had nine away winners, the best being Lynne Smith 21-7. Cuddington dropped only two points as they cruised to a 135-208 victory against Meadowbank B.

Section Four

Rudheath Bowls C hit the maximum 10 wins as they beat Davenham D 210-105 at home. Brenda Panesh 21-4 was the best win.

Janet Carter 21-5 was the pick of six home winners as Davenham C 187-160 beat Moulton RBL B.

Sandbach Park B 203-156 won their home match against Castle Sports E. Colin Fitch 21-3 performed best.

Barnton CC D and Hartford B had five winners each, but it was home side Barnton that won the match 192-175. Lee Edwards 21-6 had the best result.

Jayne Price 21-4 was the standout victory for Owley Wood E as they won their home game 174-135 against Comberbach D.

Hartford A won their home match 172-164 against Norley. Grahame Earl 21-6 got the best result.


Mid Cheshire Ladies, Division One

Barnton B won their home match 153-117 against Barrow Ladies. Jacqui Burgess 21-6 had the best result.

Tamsin Birkett 21-6 was the standout win as Red Lion Ladies won their home match 146-112 against Castle Ladies.

Winnington Ladies and Norley had four winners each, but Norley - the away side - fought out a close victory 138-140. Mavis Hodgetts 21-5 had the best win.

Moulton Ladies won their home match 149-124 against Lady Owls A. Pamela Thompson 21-9 stood out.

Division Two

Gill Dale 21-4 was the standout win as Crowton Ladies won their home match 152-115 against Hartford.

Bostock Ladies won their home match 149-119 against Rudheath SSC. Lynette Grainger and Brenda Panesh both won 21-7.

Edith McDonnell 21-4 was the top performer but couldn’t help Cuddington, losing at home 131-143 to Rode Heath.

Lady Owls B won away 117-138 at Davenham Ladies. Jane Price 21-6 had the best win.
