Cheshire County

CHESHIRE’S men defeated Wales 439-370 at the weekend.

They won the home leg at Railway Inn 210-192 and the away leg at Min Y Don Bowling Club in Colwyn Bay 178-229.

This was the last time we will see Glynn Cookson on the team sheet for Cheshire.

After more than 150 games, he has decided to retire from county action.

For nearly 50 years Glynn has been a stalwart of Cheshire County Bowling.

He will continue to play for his club, Wharton.

"I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every game.

"But now it’s time for the younger players to take over," he said.

Mid Cheshire Federation play Airedale A at Rudheath Social Club on Sunday, 2pm start, in a make-or-break game.

Depending on the results, Mid Cheshire could go up, stay, or go down.

All support would be welcome.

Deknoop Cup

It is very easy to get lost in an A team’s successes in a season, but what is going on at Castle Sports is a tribute to the bowls section and the club.

This was magnified this Saturday when Castle Sports B and Castle Sports C fought their way into the final of the DeKnoop Cup.

Mid Cheshire League, Premier

Owley made good use of their home advantage with eight winners out of 10 in a 202-155 success against Barnton CC A, with Rob Cawood 21-5 delivering their best result.

Shavington made the journey to Castle Sports B and only managed to come away with three winners in a 194-149 loss in which Chris Morris starred with a 21-2 victory.

Kingswood and Comberbach A had five winners each but it was the home side Kingswood that took the win 188-163. Kingswood’s Graham Donnelly caught the eye with 21-6.

Wharton were boosted by seven winners at Rudheath A in a 147-197 conquest, with Tom Vickers’ 21-7 being the standout performance.

Frodsham bowler Geoff Telford’s 21-2 win was the best of eight successes for Frodsham Red Lion A in their 197-139 victory at home against Crewe PO.

Promoted Victoria A were given a test of their credentials for challenging the top two when they played host to Castle Sports A.

Section One

Barnton CC B made great use of their home advantage taking all 10 wins in their 210-144 victory over visitors Castle Sports D. Barnton bowler Paul Taylor had the best result 21-7.

Rudheath Bowls A and Meadowbank shared five winners each but home side Rudheath came out on top 187-161. Homester Steve Brittleton had the best result 21-6.

Wendy Allen was the pick of the crop with her 21-5 success in Castle Sports C’s 182-143 victory over Frodsham Red Lion B.

League leaders Wharton A had seven winners in their home victory versus Owley Wood B 190-163. Alan Vickers shone brightest with 21-5 for Wharton.

Crosstown secured seven wins in their 188-146 victory at home against Moulton RBL. Chris Jones starred with a 21-2 card.

Comberbach B and Victoria B had five winners each but the hosts Comberbach came out on top 174-166, with their best result pocketed by Mark Tomlinson 21-2.

Section Two

Helsby B v Davenham B: Helsby, the section leaders, had the maximum ten winners in their home game against Davenham. The final score was 210-108. Helsby bowler John Greatbanks had the best result 21-4.

Kelsall v Owley Wood C: Kelsall took advantage of their home green with eight winners in their 202-126 victory against Owley Wood. Kelsall bowler Kevin Depius had the best result 21-5.

Davenham A v Middlewich Rbl A: Davenham had eight home winners in their 188-142 victory against Middlewich. Davenham bowler Mike Butterley had the best result 21-2.

Sandbach Park A v Tarporley A: Sandbach had a home game against Tarporley.Sandbach had six winners in their 186-135 victory. Sandbach’s Phil Bainbridge had the best win 21-3.

Fern Villa BC A v Comberbach C: Comberbach enjoyed their trip to Fern Villa taking six winners in their 176-187 victory. Comberbach bowler James Williams had the best result 21-7.

Section Three

Owley Wood D v Barnton CC C: The two teams fought out a very close match with Barnton having six winners in their 178-181 away win. Owley bowler Rachel Macparland had the best result 21-10.

Delamere v Winnington B: Delamere had two losers at home but eight winners giving them a 204-131 victory. Delamere bowler Lawrence Doogan had best result 21-6.

Cuddington v Crowton: Seven home winners for Cuddington gave them a 189-171 victory. Crowton bowler Peter Winnington had the best result 21-6.

Meadowbank B v Tarporley B: Meadowbank had only their second win of the season. They will need a few more to get off the bottom spot.

Meadowbank had six winners in their 182-151 win. Meadowbank bowler Gary Stones had the best result 21-3.

Shavington B v Wharton Rec A: Wharton made the journey to Shavington and came away with six winners in their 172-178 win. Shavington bowler Emma Saywell had best result 21-8.

Section Four

Comberbach D v Castle Sports E: Comberbach had seven home winners to Castle’s three. Comberbach picked up another win 198-154. Comberbach bowler Steve Wharfe had the best result 21-3.

Davenham C v Sandbach Park B: Sandbach, in third place in the section, kept the pressure on the top two with a 170-183 away win. Sandbach bowler Chris Hulme had the best result 21-4.

Moulton RBL B v Davenham D: Home side Moulton had nine winners in their 208-93 win. Moulton bowlers Rebecca Carter and Janet Cross shared the best result 21-3.

Hartford A v Rudheath Bowls C: Hartford, section leaders, played at home against second place Rudheath. Hartford cemented their place at the top with seven winners in a 199-165 win. Hartford bowlers Carolyn Stiff and Greg Lambert shared best result 21-12.

Barnton CC D v Norley: Barnton had seven home winners in their 177-147 victory. Norley bowlers Andy Marshall and Keith Kenyon shared best result 21-8.

Owley Wood E v Hartford B: Owley Wood had seven winners in their 169-161 home win. Hartford bowlers Alisha Lowe and Harry Carson shared best win 21-5.

Mid Cheshire Ladies, Division one

Lady Owls A did their chances of survival a boost by beating second place Castle Ladies 167-122. Lady Owls bowlers Keira Wharton and Bethany Matthias shared best result 21-9.

Red Lion remain unbeaten after their latest 155-93 win against Barnton CC A, with Sue Worral a top performer with a 21-2 success.

Five winners steered Winnington to a 102-141 victory at Barnton B. Winnington bowler Stacey Linegar-Orange stood out with 21-1.

Both teams had four winners, but Norley pulled through with a 129-137 success at Moulton Ladies. Norley bowler Paula Gamon had the best result 21-4.

Division Two

Hartford v Lady Owls B: Hartford had five winners in their 141-138 home victory.

Lady Owls bowler Jane Price had the best result 21-6.

Crowton Ladies v Rode Heath: First place Crowton, with six home winners, won 136-112.

Crowton bowlers Alison Bestwick, Paula Whelan and Rode Heath bowler Marilyn Lloyd shared best result 21-4.

Bostock Ladies v Cuddington Ladies: With six home winners, Bostock got over the line 160-95.

Bostock bowler Jane Newton had the best result 21-1.

Davenham Ladies v Rudheath SSC: Second place Davenham had six home winners in their 157-116 victory.

Davenham bowler Margaret Buckley had best result 21-5.
