THE triallist who scored four goals for Northwich Victoria in a pre-season friendly at the weekend has now been signed.
He is a familiar face in the area, with proven goal-scorer Matty Birchall having played for Winsford United for the past two seasons as well as having had a previous spell with Vics and spent time with 1874 Northwich as well.
Vics manager Lee Duckworth said: "Matty is an intelligent footballer who is an excellent finisher.
"He’s a threat anywhere round the box and will work well to complement our other forward options.
"Delighted to finally be working with Matty and seeing what the season brings for him."
Vics’ goal rate slowed down towards the end of last season, contributing to narrowly missing out on the Midland League Premier Division title and then promotion through the play-offs.
Birchall said: "The club obviously came very close last season so I’m hoping I can chip in with some goals to help the club get to where it deserves to be.
"The style of play the management encourage really suits me as it’s more football based so looking forward to it."
Birchall’s footballing journey began in the youth ranks at Bradford City before he moved on to Crewe FC.
He first arrived at Vics ahead of the 2020/21 season, quickly establishing himself as a fan favourite and a lethal threat in front of goal.
Across two-and-a-half years he racked up 38 goals in 79 appearances.
After moving to Runcorn Linnets in January 2023, he enjoyed spells with Whitchurch Alport, 1874 Northwich, and Ramsbottom United, before joining Winsford United.
Duckworth has also added midfielder/defender Matty Coughlan for his second spell in green.
Vics have confirmed they have also retained the services of young defender Mikey Lawson, homegrown forward Will Bentley, and left-back Max Sutton.
