A WINSFORD Academy student came out on top in the Cheshire Schools Golf Championships.

Noah Alexander’s performance stood out among the record field of more than 130 boys and girls in the event at The Wilmslow Golf Club.

The main organiser for the competition was Andrew Henshall, former Cheshire president, former Wilmslow captain and currently the Cheshire boys manager.

He said: “122 boys and 16 girls took part in the tournaments - team and individual nett and gross.

“There were some exceptional scores with seven boys and one girl shooting scores below par.

“Noah Alexander was top in both the boys nett and gross competitions with scores of 67 and 63. Whilst Noah won both tournaments, he couldn’t collect both prizes so the best gross was given to Wilfred Simcock of Wilmslow High School, with 69.

“Phoebe Henderson’s amazing score of nett 63, tipped the schools’ team prize for the nett scores in favour of Cheadle Hulme School, while scores of 71 gross by both Will Furness and Ben Davies enabled Ashton on Mersey School to win the gross team prize.

“Both Schools will now have their names put forward to play in the national finals at Woodhall Spa on July 8.”

Alexander was among the players who was invited to the regional finals.
