WINSFORD United have joined Northwich Victoria in booking their place in the Midland Football League play-offs.
Their 1-0 win at fellow top-five hopefuls Brocton on Thursday night moved them up to third spot, four points clear of sixth-placed Dudley going into the final day of the league campaign tomorrow.
Niza Chilufya’s ninth goal of the season in the 58th minute sealed the all-important result for Blues.
Reece Davies was denied three goals, twice by the crossbar in the 15th and 97th minutes as well as having an effort cleared off the line in added time.
Depending on other results, they may need to defeat relegated Studley at home on Saturday to confirm their third-place finish and a home tie in the play-offs semi-finals.
Vics go into their final league match at home to Coton Green happy in the knowledge their second-place finish was confirmed at the weekend, albeit having missed out on top spot and the automatic promotion spot to Hanley Town.
All eyes will be on 1874 Northwich on Saturday to see if they can be the third team from Mid Cheshire to seal a play-offs spot.
Currently fourth, a draw from their visit to 14th-placed Stourport Swifts would be enough for them to join Winsford and Vics in extending their season by at least one more week.
If Dudley don’t win at Lye Town, then 1874’s result does not impact on them placing in the top five.
The other team in the mix are AFC Wolverhampton City, who are currently fifth and may need a win at Stone Old Alleynians to avoid being pipped by Dudley.
