NORTHWICH Victoria’s lead at the top of the Midland League Premier Division has been cut down to two points.
They held a five-point advantage over nearest rivals Hanley on Saturday, but the Stoke side won their game-in-hand at home to 1874 Northwich on Tuesday night to narrow the deficit.
No wonder co-manager Lee Duckworth felt Saturday’s home draw against AFC Wolverhampton City was two points lost, despite fighting back from 2-0 down to rescue a share of the spoils.
“Wolverhampton came with a game plan and did very well in the first half but ultimately the two goals (conceded) came from mistakes defensively and we’ve got to cut them out,” he said.
“They’ve cost us the last few games and cost us again on Saturday.
“We’ve been so good defensively over the course of 19 games we’ve played but Saturday just summed where we’ve been for the last few and it’s something we’ve got to look at, something we’ve got to eradicate.
“We still had enough chances to win the game.
“I think their first goal changed the game. Their tails were up and we sat back a little bit, we looked a little shellshocked because we’d had opportunities, we didn’t score and we looked a bit frustrated.
“We’ve got to start taking those chances because we probably had three or four really good ones before they got their (opening) goal.”
Vics host 13th-placed Romulus on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
