Mid Cheshire Crown Green Bowling League
Premier table toppers Castle Sports A hosted fifth place Rudheath Bowls A and a commanding 203-109 victory almost handed Castle the title, standing almost 100 points in front of second place Frodsham Red Lion A, who did everything they could to close the gap on Castle with a maximum 210-112 win at home to Shavington.
Frodsham are ahead of third place Wharton Cons A by nine points but with their last game away at Wharton it would take something special by Frodsham to keep second spot.
Wharton visited Crewe PO in a third-v-fourth clash and came home with a 170-173 success.
Sixth place Comberbach A travelled to Owley Wood A, and it was the home side that took the victory winning 181-161.
Castle Sports B, in seventh, played at Helsby A, the home team winning 178-166.
Victoria B had another rough night at home to Owley Wood B but managed to claim their fifth win of the season, winning 161-155. With only one game to go, the top three in the premier averages are: First Tom Vickers, second Rob Winnington, third David O’Brien.
In Section One, first place Victoria A triumphed 201-149 at Castle Sports C.
This, and the fact Victoria were given away their game in hand at Rudheath Bowls B 0-210, secured them the title.
I am looking forward to Victoria getting in among the top teams in the Premier next season.

Mid Cheshire Ladies Team Knockout
The semi-finals and final were played at Bunbury BC.

Semi-final, Crowton v Norley: Sylvia Martin 10-21 Sandra Gilfedder, Beverley Barton 21-19 Pat Newhouse, Barbara Tench 21-12 Mavis Hodgetts, Paula Whelan 21-16 Lynette Marshall, Anne Palmer 14-21 Joan Nicholas, Alison Bestwick 21-14 Anne Price, Viv Everitt 21-14 Anne Littler, Gill Dale 21-20 Paula Gamo. Final score: Crowton Ladies 190-157 Norley.
It was a great result for second division Crowton overcoming first division Norley.
Crowton would have won the match without the handicap.
Semi-final: Barrow v Red Lion: Angela Howard 17-21 Nicola Boulton, Lynne Smith 10-21 Tamsin Birkett, Lynne Spencer 15-21 Rose Walker, Jane Christain 13-21 Dawn Nield, Sally Garratt 8-21 Cindie Mclean, Jane Woodward 21-7 Carly Williams, Mary Tavener 5-21 Hazel Williams, Liz Ruscoe 21-11 Alisha Marshall. Final score: Barrow 155-144 Red Lion.
Second division Barrow inflicted Red Lion’s first defeat of the year and although they needed the handicap just looking at the scores shows how well they played.
The final looked like a tough job for Crowton as they finished third in division two and Barrow won division two.
Final: Angela Howard 21-13 Beverley Barton, Lynne Smith 21-15 Sylvia Martin, Lynne Spencer 15-21 Paula Whelan, Jane Christain 21-16 Barbara Tench, Sally Garratt 6-21 Alison Bestwick, Jane Woodward 21-3 Anne Palmer, Mary Tavener 21-4 Gill Dale, Liz Ruscoe 19-21 Viv Everitt.
