A WATER park in Cheshire hosted a wakeboard competition in which audiences and participants had a 'blast' despite poor weather conditions.

The annual Wild Shore Delamere wakeboarding competition was a success this year despite the rainy and windy weather.

Over the weekend, crowds gathered for an action-packed competition of riders of all levels, from emerging regional talent to seasoned pros.

Operational Manager at Wild Shore, Craig Gunn, added: “Despite the British weather, it was a really nice day and we had a really good vibe on site.

“We had around 35 people sign up for the competition, and there were a lot of kids and rookies who had never tried the sport before, and that was exactly what we wanted in a local wakeboarding competition.

“It was competitive, but also really nice to see the community support each other and seeing riders who travelled getting cheered on the same as local riders was really nice to see.”

The event was also accompanied by a BBQ, live music, and commentary that kept the crowd entertained and informed about the various wild tricks from the riders.

This year's competition had riders from as young as eight to as old as 50 participating in the sport for the first time.

“We want to see more people getting into the sport.” Craig added,  “No matter their age, whether they are kids or adults, it's great for everyone to give it a go.

“As it's not the most popular sport, it's really important to create a community and environment and hopefully have people represent Wilsdhaw as their home location in future competitions like this.”

“It's one of the most addicting sports you can try out, and before you know it you will be doing jumps, spins and 360s.”

For next year's competition, more beginners are being encouraged to enter.

Craig added: “We are looking to expand are competition and link our sites at Blackpool and Scotland, so hopefully there will be more travelling.

"So if we can pull in more beginners next year, that would be really good.

“We are always trying to grow and get people into the sport in a comfortable environment with low pressure.”
