CASTLE Sports A stayed in the top spot of the Mid Cheshire Crown Green Bowling League Premier Division despite their lowest score since the league dropped to ten players a side.
They came away from Owley Wood A losing 172-158.
Frodsham Red Lion A, in second place, capitalised on Castle’s score by winning at home against Victoria B 207-96.
This left Frodsham only four points behind Castle sports A.
Third-placed Wharton Cons A secured a home win against Shavington A 194-113.
Crewe PO, in fourth, enjoyed a good night at home to Owley Wood B, winning 210-110.
Fifth-placed Rudheath Bowls A lost at Helsby 186-175, while sixth-placed Comberbach A travelled to Castle Sports B where the hosts had the better night, winning 196-162.
In Section One, Victoria A, despite having played a game less than all but one of the other teams, lead the league by 145.
Another large home score against Crosstown gave Victoria the win 208-141.
The biggest night in this section was second-place Barnton A at home to third-place Kingswood, and Barnton hit the high notes to come out on top 210-138.
Fourth-placed Meadowbank registered a home win against fifth-placed Frodsham Red Lion B, with the home side winning 199-149.
Castle Sports C, in sixth place, achieved a home win against Middlewich RBL A 204-124, while eighth-placed Wharton Cons B lost to ninth-placed Comberbach B 198-150.
Tenth-placed Rudheath Bowls B travelled to Tarporley A and came away with a 164-184 success.
Rudheath have played a game less than all but top spot Victoria. When they play the game, they could go as high as sixth.
In Section Two, Moulton RBL A stayed in top spot with a home win against Helsby B 190-156.
Second-placed Castle Sports D only dropped six points as they claimed a fine away win against Shavington B, 161-204.
Third-placed Barnton CC B travelled to Sandbach Park A but the home team had the best of the night, winning 196-155.
Winsford Cons A, in fifth, had a good home win against Kelsall, taking the game 206-150.
Sixth-placed Davenham A pocketed a home win against Lk Graylams 201-144.
Middlewich RBL B, in seventh place, produced a good home win against Winsford Cons B 208-150.
In Section Three, Wharton Rec A - technically in first place – won their home match against Winnington A 200-157.
Comberbach C, with two games in hand and in second spot, are looking favourites to win the section.
They had a close home win against Owley Wood D, winning 186-169.
Owley Wood C just won their home game against Tarporley B 167-166, Crowton lost at Barnton CC C 187-163, Hartford A lost at home to Sandbach Park B 159-169.
In Section Four, leaders Cuddington won narrowly at Castle Sports E 151-166.
Second-placed Winnington B delivered a 195-153 home win against Davenham D.
Rudheath Bowls C just won their home match against Barnton CC D 166-161.
Davenham C had a good home win against Comberbach D 190-163, Moulton RBL B won at Norley A 145-178, Owley Wood E were victorious at home against Hartford B 178-142.
Mid Cheshire Ladies:
Division One first-placed side Red Lion continued their unbeaten season with a win at Norley 120-160.
Castle Ladies, in second place, closed the gap on first place by four points with a win at Barnton B 133-164.
Third-placed Barnton A took a knock with a loss at Lady Owls 162-120.
Fourth-placed Winnington Ladies posted victory at Bunbury 126-152.
Davenham Ladies had a home win against Rudheath winning 158-10.
With only three games left until the end of the season the top three places look like they will end where they are.
In Division Two, table toppers Barrow Ladies had a close game at second-placed Moulton Ladies, losing 133-129.
Third-placed Crowton Ladies had a tough night at fourth-placed Bostock Ladies 160-124.
Fifth-place Lady Owls B had a close home win against Hartford 139-131.
Rode Heath won at home against Cuddington Ladies 138-116.
With only one game left in their league season, only some surprise results will give any changes in the top three.
Wharton Cons Open 2025:
The Wharton Cons Open concluded on Sunday.
Mid Cheshire bowler Gareth Stanway Victoria A made it through to the final against Callum Wraight, but it was Callum who took the title.
