Stuart Greenhalgh picks out some highlights of the Mid Cheshire crown green bowling scene…
THE Littler Cup Final was played at Comberbach on Friday between Wharton Cons and Victoria BC.
Wharton Cons (Premier) were not my favourites to win against Victoria (Section One).
Victoria are going to grace the Premier next season and I am sure will get in and among the top five.
The handicap was just enough in Victoria’s favour to make life tough for Wharton.
Wharton Cons won the match 185-175 but after the addition of handicaps it was Victoria that won the Littler Cup 205-220.
Results, handicaps in brackets: Glynn Cookson (1) 21-13 Gareth Stanway (4), Danny Nixon (0) 21-12 Nathan Brown (4), Tom Vickers (0) 21-6 Martin Simcock (3), Simon Cookson (1) 15-21 Nick Walker (3), Joe Tomkinson (3) 11-21 Andy Moore (11), Owen Cookson (2) 16-21 Stuart Sutton (5), Chris Kearns (0) 18-21 Matt Barnett (5), Ashley Blackburn (3) 21-19 Simon White (3), Phil Cookson (8) 21-20 Tony Stevens (4), Tom Palin (2) 20-21 Robert Eaton (3)
Mid Cheshire Ladies:
In the First Division, leaders Red Lion Ladies achieved an overwhelming 159-82 victory over Castle Ladies, who dropped to third place.
On Tuesday, Red Lion Ladies played their game in hand at Bunbury, winning the match 85-150.
Winnington had an away result at Davenham Ladies, winning 133-144.
Fourth-placed Barnton A lost at Norley 135-130, while Lady Owls dropped only six chalks in a 116-162 success at Bunbury.
Barnton B had a convincing home win against Rudheath SSC, with only one loss in their 160-99 triumph.
In Division Two, frontrunners Moulton Ladies defeated Hartford 151-119.
Second-placed Barrow Ladies won at Cuddington Ladies 86-156, third-placed Crowton had a great win at Rode Heath 98-160, Bostock Ladies won at Lady Owls B 118-131.
Mid Cheshire Federation:
Mid Cheshire sadly lost their third game out of four and it would take some kind of miracle to stay up.
The reality is we are close to being good enough, even on Sunday we had 11 out of 24 winners to Bradford's 13.
Our away team did all they could with six winners, but unfortunately our home side only managed five against a strong Bradford team.
Federation Merits:
This Saturday the very first Ladies Merit will be contested at Crewe Bowling Club (21A Stanhope Avenue, Crewe CW1 6ED).
Anyone wishing to come and watch a very high-quality field of 32 bowlers is welcome.
The day after at Owley Wood, 64 will arrive to play for the Men’s Merit.
Both competitions see the winners going forward to represent the federation at the Champion of Champions.
Both competitions will start promptly at 10am.
