TEAM GB gymnast Alisha Evanson has been visiting schools across Northwich and Winsford to deliver assemblies and workshops, inspiring thousands of pupils along the way.
The visits have been organised by Vale Royal School Sport Partnership and see the tumbling specialist wow large groups of young people with tales of her journey as an athlete and her achievements to date.
The partnership consider visits like these as a great way to inspire children to take up a sport or just maintain the active lifestyle local schools love to celebrate.
Alisha, who also works as a coach at Cheshire Gymnastics at Moss Farm, said: “It’s been lovely to see to so many children get excited to see me and hopefully I’ve inspired them to keep working hard at their chosen sport or have a go at a new sport, so that someday they might also be able to represent their country!
“It’s also been nice for myself to visit all the schools to realise how far I’ve come as I was once one of them sat in assembly with big dreams to be on the GB team and I’ve managed to achieve that!”
Highlighting the impact Alisha’s visit had, Mr Ellis, teacher at Weaverham Primary Academy, said: “Alisha captivated the children with the story of her incredible journey, inspiring them with her use of positive affirmations. Her message encouraged them to work harder and reach even further.”
And Nicola Downey, teacher at Whitley Village School, added: “It was amazing to have such an inspirational visit from Alisha.
“It was brilliant to hear how to be a successful sportsperson.
“Since the visit, we have seen an increase in the number of children signing up to our after-school gymnastics club.
“It was lovely to have parents thanking us for providing these opportunities for our children.”
More such visits are being planned.
Chris Story, Vale Royal School Sport Partnership, said: “We’ve been really excited to help Alisha inspire so many budding sporting megastars.
“Seeing children’s astonished faces as they watch Alisha hurtle down the track on her competition showreel shows immediately what an incredible impact these visits have had.
“Athlete visits like these are a much loved highlight of the school year and we’re excited to be preparing more from another special guest before the end of term!”
