NORTHWICH climbed off the bottom of the Regional 2 North West table thanks to Saturday’s 27-13 home win against Eccles.
This was a rearranged match that had earlier fallen foul of the weather.
Except for a couple of tweaks this was the same Blacks side which met Bowdon the previous week so there was hope of continuity being the order of the day.
With the season into the second half, it was clear that Blacks need to turn things around if they are to secure their place in this division next term.
This could also be said for Eccles who, like Northwich, need to deliver results.
With the new electronic scoreboard donated by The Round Table in place, all was set for a highly competitive encounter.
Northwich broke the deadlock after seven minutes with an Oscar Malik penalty but Eccles replied in kind.
From the restart the ambitious Eccles back line countered to score a try from deep in their own half.
This stunned Blacks into action and eight minutes later levelled the score with a Quinlan Watson try converted by Malik.
Northwich were further rewarded for their efforts in stoppage time with a penalty giving them a three-point lead at the break.
The second half belonged to the home side.
The first points came after 55 minutes Richard Dale took a quick tap penalty and crossed the line, giving Malik an easy conversion.
Five minutes later Northwich scored a try from the best move of the match.
There was involvement with almost the whole team before man-of-the-match Tom White scored.
With the match now in added time the bonus point looked to have passed Northwich by.
That was until a penalty gave Blacks an attacking lineout.
Once the ball was secured it seemed inevitable that White would ensure the important try was finally scored.
Northwich travel to Crewe & Nantwich on Saturday, kick-off 2.15pm.
