THIS weekend's ‘derby’ at Moss Farm between Northwich Rugby Club and Winnington Park has an additional attraction in that Blacks will be celebrating their 60th anniversary.
Formed in the 1964/65 season out of Mid Cheshire College by head of PE, the late John Chappell, and student the late John Langston, evolvement into a successful senior club has occurred.
Numerous guests will be attending the pre-match meal to commemorate the occasion and at which two surviving members of the club's first ever match will be honoured with life membership.
Guests include MP Andrew Cooper, Northwich Mayor Cllr Kate Cernik, former captains Colin Naylor, Mike Naylor, Ricky Dodd, Tim Wilding as well as Cheshire RU president and former British Lions, England scrum-half Dewi Morris.
Jonathon Simpson, captain of Northwich Rugby Club when they lifted the EDF Cup at Twickenham, will also be in attendance.
Kick off is 2.15 pm and admission is free.
Northwich will be aiming to do the double over Winnington Park, who will be hoping to avenge the defeat at Burrows Hill earlier this season.
Park go into the contest on the back of a 35-17 defeat at home to Widnes at the weekend.
Winnington trailed 14-3 at the interval and fell further behind 28-3 within 12 minutes of the second half.
Two converted Park tries in the final quarter sandwiched another seven points from the visitors.
Cameron Flanagan kicked Park’s penalty goal in the first period.
Widnes were down to 14 men for a second time following a high tackle when Park crossed for their first try.
A string of eight phases of attack led to Dan Williams offloading for Tom King to power over, with Flanagan adding the extras.
After Widnes cancelled that effort out with their fifth try, Dan Williams picked up from the back of a five-metre scrum and powered over.
