SANDIWAY Golf Club women’s team celebrated winning the coveted Elisabeth Wilson Scratch Shield - one of the Cheshire Ladies Golf ‘major’ competitions for 30 years.

The final, held on Prestbury’s superb course which was in excellent condition, was a repeat of the 2023 showdown which Sale won 3-2.

But the tables were turned this time around, with Sandiway getting their shot in the final thanks to knocking out RLGC 3-2 at home in the second round, Prestbury away 3-2 in the quarter-finals and Bramhall 3-2 in the semi-finals at Romiley Golf Club.

The opening match of the final saw Sale’s England star Cath Rawthore win a tight contest with Jane Burke by 1 up.

Then Sandiway came back in style with wins from Barbara Laird, 4&3 over Rebecca Hyde; Alison Hunt, 5&3 over Sue Oldham; and Cathy Day, 5&4 over Jenny Page.

Di Stow conceded the last match to Sale’s Caroline Croxton with the result already decided at 3-2 to Sandiway.
