Stuart Greenhalgh updates us on the Mid Cheshire Crown Green Bowling League scene…
FOR the second week running, Wharton Cons A moved closer to the summit in the top flight with their 188-183 loss at Kingswood.
Castle Sports also lost away to third place Frodsham Red Lion A, who had six winners to Castle’s four in a 181-166 victory.
Castle, who are home to bottom club Alsager in their last game, lead Cons by just nine points. Wharton Cons are home to Castle Sports B in their final game.
Crewe Post Office, in fourth place, moved closer to Frodsham in third place, with a 198-150 triumph at Alsager.
Kingswood need a near perfect score in their last game at Crewe Post Office to have any chance of staying up. They do look likely to join Alsager in Section One next year.
In Section One, Shavington A had a bad score at Sandbach Park, losing 184-164, although with only one game left Shavington will be promoted as champions.
They will be joined in the Premier next season by Owley Wood B.
At the bottom of the section, Sandbach Park will finish 12th and Crosstown 11th - both will be relegated.
In Section Two, Victoria scored the maximum for the third Friday on the run, winning 210-86 at home to Winsford Cons A.
Victoria will be promoted as champions, with Barnton CC A placing runner-up.
Wharton Rec A are in bottom place, with Helsby B looking highly likely to join them in Section Three.
Middlewich RBL B and Winnington are first and second in Section Three after completing their games this season.
Middlewich RBL B cannot be caught and will finish as champions.
Shavington C are slight favourites to finish second but as their last game is away at third place Crowton, they could be caught if the results go their way.
Winsford Cons B, Owley Wood C, and Barnton CC C all have a small chance of getting second.
In Section Four, Comberbach C, Tarporley and Owley Wood D all have a chance of promotion but with only 36 points between the three of them and seven between first and second, this section - like the Premier - is going down to the very last game.
The bottom of Section Four is not as exciting with Davenham D confirmed as finishing bottom.
Meanwhile, Wharton Cons and Comberbach A will contest the Whitby Cup final at Owley Wood No1 green tomorrow, Tuesday, after winning their semi-finals.
Wharton Cons narrowly defeated Victoria 106-103 as they seek to defend their title in a competition which changed format to a handicapped team pairs format last year.
Comberbach A overhauled Winnington A 130-110 in their semi-final.
The final competition in the Mid Cheshire Women’s League season, the Presidents Cup, was held on Saturday.
A field of 11 battled down to the final pairing of Paula Gamon and Carly Williams to see who would take home the cup.
Gamon came out on top 21-12.
