IT is now three league defeats in a row for Witton Albion.
Ben Harrison’s side slipped to a 2-1 loss at Chasetown on Tuesday night – a result that dropped them to 14th in the Northern Premier League West Division table.
The visitors had fallen behind against the run of play when Danny Glover put the Scholars ahead, but parity was restored on the stroke of half time when Kevin Spinelli poked home his first Witton goal from close range.
However, Ben Lund’s strike just before the hour mark turned out to be Chasetown’s winner.
In total, it is now four defeats in five in all competitions for Albion, with their only victory in that sequence being their FA Cup win at Crook Town.
Their run in that competition continues on Saturday in the third qualifying round, when they face a tough trip to NPL Premier Division leaders Macclesfield.
Elsewhere on Tuesday night, there was cup success for 1874 Northwich as they swept aside Stone Old Alleynians in the Midland Football League’s League Cup.
Chris Herbert’s side were 3-0 victors, with all three goals coming in the first half.
Josh Oultram opened the scoring by finishing off a cross from Jack McKean, who added the second goal direct from a free kick.
Just before half time, Richard Taiwo scored what turned out to be the final goal of the night as he headed home Niall Osborne’s corner at the near post.
1874 are back in MFL Premier Division action on Saturday when they travel to Wolverhampton Casuals.
