Stuart Greenhalgh provides the latest updates from the crown green bowling scene in Mid Cheshire…
CASTLE Sports A faced fourth place Crewe PO at home in the Mid Cheshire Crown Green Bowling League Premier Division.
Castle were hoping to extend their lead at the top, while Crewe needed a good score to keep them in the running for third place.
It turned out to be an extremely poor night for Crewe, only managing to get two winners in a 202-134 defeat.
Wharton Cons A only managed four winners at Middlewich CBC but still came away with a 182-165.
Frodsham Red Lion A picked up their fifth maximum score of the season, winning at home 210-134 against Helsby A.
Comberbach A also had a maximum when hosting Owley Wood A, winning 210-139.
In Section One, Shavington A came away from Middlewich RBL with six winners in a 194-181 victory.
This keeps Shavington in top spot with only five games left in the season.
Second place Owley Wood B played at home against fourth place Meadowbank, and it was the home team that had the better night winning 197-163.
Third place Rudheath B had a tough night at Wharton Cons B, with the third placed team losing 177-155.
In Section Two, Victoria regained the top spot with a 208-93 home win against Wharton Rec A.
This gives Victoria a 106-point lead over Barnton CC A and almost guarantees promotion and section winners.
Middlewich RBL B top the Section Three table after a terrific win at Rudheath Bowls C 200-159.
Shavington B are second after beating Davenham B at home 199-115.
Barnton CC C are third after defeating Owley Wood C 185-164.
In Section Four, Comberbach C look the team most likely to top the table at the end of the season but with a little more than 150 points between first and sixth and with five games to go don’t be surprised if Tarporley B, Castle Sports E, Owley Wood D, Winnington B or Cuddington crash into the top two by the end of the season.
I can update you on this year’s women’s competitions to date.

At the semi-final stage of The Betty Horwill H/C, Sue Worrall won her game 21-15 against Liz Ruscoe.
Nicola Boulton won the other semi-final but it was Sue who won the battle of the teammates in the final to take the title 21-11.
