GIRLS’ football in our region is getting stronger by the year – and there will be evidence of that at Moss Farm today.

The under 13s Cheshire County Cup Final will be played there this afternoon, and the two teams battling it out for the trophy will be neighbours.

Earlier this week, we brought you the story of Winsford Town’s under 13s girls team, who will contest the cup final two days before many of the team represent Winsford Academy in the English Schools Cup Final.

Well standing across the field from them today will be a team who have been on quite the journey of their own in Hartford FC.

Indeed, the club’s under 13s Hurricanes are the first girls team from the club, who first started offering girls football in 2011, to reach the county cup final.

They too have won through five rounds to get to the final and will now face their neighbours for a tilt at the trophy.

Paul Aldridge – the team’s manager and head of the Hartford FC girls section – said: “To be in the final against a local rival in Winsford should make for a great occasion and is testament to the strength of the Mid Cheshire Girls League.”

The match kicks off at 12pm at Moss Farm and spectators are welcome.
