IT could end up being quite the week for Rob Hopley.

Having already led Winsford Town to promotion in their inaugural season, two of the girls’ teams he coaches are going for trophies this weekend.

Most of the players, including his daughter Ella, overlap between the Winsford Town team going for glory in the Cheshire Cup on Saturday and the Winsford Academy under 13s side that will contest the National Cup final at West Bromwich Albion’s Hawthorns home ground on Monday.

Ahead of what could be a memorable weekend, however, Hopley says the girls remain focused and unfazed.

“They’re a mad bunch – it’s like nothing fazes them and they just take it all in their stride,” he said.

“After the semi final win up in Newcastle, it was no massive celebration from them at the end even if it was for the parents and teachers on the sidelines!

“They just haven’t got a clue what they’ve achieved so far – they will realise one day when they’re older but at the moment, they are so laid back and are just going with the flow with every single game.

“Most of the girls have a Cheshire Cup Final to look forward to first on Saturday for Winsford Town, so it’s a huge couple of days for the majority of the team.”

The Winsford Academy team have already been crowned Cheshire champions and having come through eight rounds of national competition, they will face Shenfield High School of Essex in Monday’s final.

However, a national final is nothing new to many of the team, who were in the Winsford High Street Primary School team that unfortunately lost on penalties at Coventry City FC in 2022.

“I’m hoping they can go one better this time and that experience will spur them on,” Hopley said.

“It’s still an unbelievable achievement to get this far, but I will be telling the girls that now we’ve got this far, we can’t rest there.

“We have to give it our all to try and bring the trophy back to Winsford, something that has never been done before.

“Winning the Cheshire Cup a couple of months ago to getting to the English Schools National Final out of 499 schools is unbelievable and something you can only dream of.”

The Cheshire Cup Final between Winsford Town and Hartford takes place at Moss Farm on Saturday with a 12pm kick off, with spectators welcome.

Then, the Winsford Academy vs Shenfield match at the Hawthorns is a 1.30pm kick off on Monday and will be streamed live on the English Schools FA’s Youtube channel, ESFA TV.
