THIS weekend’s sub-zero temperatures meant the majority of our teams’ football matches were postponed on Saturday.

However, Witton Albion did get to play their Northern Premier League West Division trip to Chasetown while the artificial surface at Moss Farm allowed the clash between neighbours Winsford Town and Hartford to go ahead.

Albion’s game was one of only two to go ahead in the division and they slipped to a 3-2 defeat – their third in a row – as all five goals came in the second half.

Harry Brazell put Witton ahead less than a minute after the restart, but the lead lasted just six minutes as John Atherton levelled for the hosts, who then took the lead just after the hour through Ryan Shaw.

Matt Lowton scored for the second game in a row to equalise for Jon Macken’s with 13 minutes remaining, but Sam Wilding struck the winner for Chasetown seconds later.

Albion remain 16th in the table and switch their focus to the Cheshire Senior Cup in midweek for a trip to Nantwich Town on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, six different players hit the target for Winsford Town as they hammered neighbours Hartford 9-0 in the Mid Cheshire FA Cup.

Adam O’Mara, Will Eaton and Ste Warburton all scored twice each to go with further goals from Devon Renshaw, Carl Harvey and James Dean.

Home games for 1874 Northwich and Northwich Victoria – against Trafford and Dudley Town respectively – both fell victim to frozen pitches.
