A NORTHWICH teenager has marked himself out as one to watch in the world of Brazilian jiu jitsu.
Alfie Taggart, who lives in Hartford, claimed a gold medal in his very first competition having taken up the martial art less than a year ago.
Having gained his white belt – the first of five students can achieve all the way up to black belt – he was entered into the English National Championships on Saturday after just eight months of training.
The 15-year-old, who is a Year 10 student at Knutsford Academy, went into a straight final and after some close early exchanges, he managed to submit his opponent by way of a rear naked choke within three minutes.
Alfie trains at Gracie Barra Northwich, who are based at Concraft Business Park in Wincham.
