NINE-MAN Witton Albion beat the odds to pull off a stunning victory at promotion-chasing Leek Town on Saturday afternoon.
Just seven minutes after Prince Haywood was sent off, Sam Billington scored the 65th-minute winner for Jon Macken’s side against the team who sit second in the Northern Premier League West table.
The hosts were then reduced to 10 men as Jesy Bavanganga was dismissed, and a busy afternoon for the referee was completed when Lee Jackson saw red for a second bookable offence in injury time.
Still, Witton held on for an impressive win that means they are just one point adrift of the play-off spots in sixth.
1874 Northwich also finished with nine men as they were beaten 1-0 by Mossley at Townfield.
Kai Payne had scored what turned out to be the game’s only goal just before half time before Mark Jones was dismissed for the hosts midway through the second half.
Liam Buckley then saw red late on for Greens, who sit 12th in the table.
In the North West Counties League, two late goals helped Winsford United to a home victory over Padiham in the Premier Division.
Dan Boden broke the deadlock at Barton Stadium 15 minutes from time before Ashley Woods doubled the lead and sealed the victory in the 87th minute.
Barnton were also victorious in the First Division South, with Dylon Meredith’s second-half winner securing a 2-1 win at Alsager Town.
Lee Turkington had put the Villagers ahead after just two minutes, with Kallam Boyle equalising for the hosts just before half time.
