NORTHWICH Victoria and Barnton FC will be bidding to reach the quarter-finals of the North West Counties Football League’s Macron Cup this weekend – weather permitting!

Vics are due to host fellow Premier Division side Barnoldswick Town at the U Lock It Stadium on Sunday, kick-off 2pm, while The Villagers welcome Bacup Borough to Townfield Lane on Saturday at 3pm.

Steve Wilkes' Vics, who are fifth, and Barnoldswick, 12th, should have met in the league last weekend but the contest was one of many to be postponed due to a waterlogged pitch but now it's a returning cold snap that is putting this weekend's matches under threat.

Barnton and Bacup play a division below, albeit in separate South and North sections respectively, so it will be their first meeting of the season too if all is well with a Townfield pitch that was covered in frozen snow in midweek and resulted in the clash with Abbey Hulton United being postponed.

Meanwhile, the focus is on league action this weekend for Witton Albion, 1874 Northwich and Winsford United.

Albion, who also missed out last Saturday due to the wet weather impact, will seek to defend an eight-match unbeaten run in Northern Premier League West as they are scheduled to host Prescot Cables at the U Lock It Stadium on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

A victory would see Witton, who were defeated 2-1 at Crewe Alexandra in the Cheshire Senior Cup on their last outing, leap above sixth-placed Prescot Cables.

Albion have announced a pitch inspection for tomorrow morning at 10am.

1874 Northwich returned to winning ways in NPL West at the weekend and will be hoping to build on that at second-from-bottom Ramsbottom United on Saturday.

Winsford United head to Charnock Richard after their home clash against Vauxhall Motors at the weekend was initially delayed and then postponed due to floodlight failure.

And then Wednesday's home encounter with Litherland REMYCA was called off due to a frozen pitch.
