WITTON Albion are officially in “must win” territory as defeat this evening could see their fate sealed.
Carl Macauley’s men welcome Morpeth Town to the U Lock It Stadium knowing anything other than a first win in eight matches may see them relegated from the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
With five games of their season remaining, Witton are 11 points behind third-bottom Basford United, who are also in action this evening at home to Warrington Town.
Albion’s relegation will be confirmed if they fail to equal or better Basford’s result this evening, but a victory will keep them alive for at least another game regardless.
Morpeth may also have an eye on events at Greenwich Avenue as victory for them could see them close the gap on Warrington, who occupy the final play-off spot, to just one point.
Witton have reason to be optimistic heading into tonight’s game, however, having beaten tonight’s visitors 2-1 in the reverse fixture in Northumberland earlier this year.
A brace of goals for top goalscorer Callum Saunders was enough to earn Macauley’s side victory back in September.
Kick off at the U Lock It Stadium is at 7.45pm.
