THE perfect season is complete for Winnington Park Hockey Club’s men’s second team.

They went into Saturday’s trip to Macclesfield’s thirds – their nearest challengers in the league – with 19 wins from as many games, with promotion and the league title already in the bag.

What followed was a fitting end to the season – a 5-0 victory to bring up their 20th success of a truly remarkable campaign.

They finish with the best league record in the north west – their invincible season has seen them score 93 goals and concede just 16.

Dec Lamb was the star of the show in the final game as he calmed early nerves by getting the opener before plundering two more goals to complete a hat-trick.

Fittingly, it was captain Jonny McKeown who scored a rare goal to round off the victory and the season.

Meanwhile, Liam McKee – the leading goalscorer for the men’s third team – had another prolific weekend as they wrapped up their season with a victorious double-header.

He scored five times to take his tally beyond 40 for the season as Park beat Crewe 7-1 on Saturday to roll into a trip to Triton with a chance of second spot in the table.

McKee scored another brace in that game, with George Gray also on target to wrap up a 3-0 victory and the runners-up spot.

There were mixed ends to the season for the club’s first teams.

The ladies rounded off their campaign with a 2-1 win over Wilmslow while the men were thrashed 11-0 away at Chester.
