WITTON Albion cut the gap between themselves and safety this evening – but not by as much as they would have liked.

They at least ended a six-match losing run with a 0-0 draw at Atherton Collieries but may well reflect on what might have been after having the better of the match.

They are now 10 points away from a position of safety with just six matches remaining.

Meanwhile, 1874 Northwich finished a run of six consecutive away fixtures with a 1-0 win at Newcastle Town.

Matty Fenton scored the game’s only goal with 14 minutes remaining to send Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison’s side up to 13th in the NPL West Division table.

There was a dramatic finish for Northwich Victoria in the North West Counties League Premier Division.

Matthew Dudley scored the winning goal in injury time as Steve Wilkes’ side won 2-1 at Wythenshawe Town having come from behind.

Deane Smalley’s penalty had put Wythenshawe ahead just prior to the hour mark, only for Brandon Barski to equalise for Vics.
