WITTON Albion were pushed closer to the relegation trap door last night.
A controversial late goal from Jake Charles allowed visitors Stafford Rangers to leave the U Lock It Stadium with a 1-0 victory to boost their own hopes of a play-off place.
However, it leaves Carl Macauley’s side in a perilous position – they are 10 points adrift of safety with eight games of their season remaining.
The decisive moment came 12 minutes from time as Charles bundled home from close range, with Witton appealing for a foul on debutant defender Teddy Mfuni, whose move to the club on loan from Preston North End was confirmed prior to kick off.

In a game of few chances, Mfuni had a couple of opportunities to mark his debut with a goal but headed both over the bar.
Stafford keeper Mateusz Hewelt also had to be alert to keep out efforts from Joe Mwasile and James Foley.
