WINNINGTON Avenue 94 Reserves pulled off a notable cup upset on Saturday.
Having fallen behind early against a Crewe FC side ranked four divisions higher than them, Gary Lee Jamieson’s side rebounded to take a 2-1 victory in the Crewe DFA Saturday Cup.
Two spectacular goals won the day for the hosts at Moss Farm – Ross Collins’ exquisite 25-yard curler proved to be the winner after Shane Davies had equalised with a volley.
That all came after Harry Walker had put the Cheshire Football League Premier Division side ahead against the Reserve League Two outfit.
“We reacted in the perfect way and continued to give Crewe FC problems,” manager Jamieson said.
“Our bravery on the ball and discipline off the ball was the difference.”
Also at Moss Farm, Winnington Avenue 94’s first team suffered only their second league loss of the season in CFL League One as they lost 4-1 to Whalley Range.
Those two matches were the only two to take place for our CFL teams, with the wet weather decimating the weekend’s schedule.
Saturday’s Cheshire Football League fixtures:
Premier Division: Greenalls PSO vs Lostock Gralam, Middlewich Town vs Knutsford
League One: Windle Labour vs Winnington Avenue 94
Northern Cup: Hartford FC vs Bickerstaffe
