WITTON Albion are back in action this afternoon as Callum Saunders aims to break a club record that has stood since 1948.

Carl Macauley's men return to the field after a fortnight's break as they welcome high-flying Bamber Bridge to Wincham Park.

In-form striker Saunders has already equalled George Stubbs' record of scoring in eight consecutive league games, which was set back when the club were a Cheshire League outfit, so he will set an impressive new mark if he gets on the scoresheet.

Albion could move into the top half with victory, but they face a tough examination with the visit of the Lancastrians.

Bamber Bridge arrive as the Northern Premier League Premier Division's leading goalscorers – they have netted 36 times in their 18 matches – and with seven victories from their nine league away fixtures.

Meanwhile, 1874 Northwich will also test their mettle against play-off chasing opposition in the NPL West Division.

They visit Trafford, who are unbeaten at their Shawe View home ground this season and have lost just twice in the league so far.

However, Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison's side are showing signs of getting to grips with the division – they have lost just one of their past five league games, a run that includes three victories.

In the North West Counties League, no side in the Premier Division is currently in better form than Winsford United.

Lee Duckworth's Blues are flying with four wins and two draws from their past six games, and they welcome struggling Padiham to Barton Stadium this afternoon.

Winsford's 45 goals scored is bettered only by third-place Charnock Richard (60) and they will aim to add to that tally against a side that sit just a point above the relegation zone.

However, Padiham arrive in Mid-Cheshire boosted by a crucial 3-1 win over fellow strugglers Runcorn Town last time out.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Northwich Victoria travel to Merseyside for the second week in a row as they visit Vauxhall Motors.

Inconsistency continues to blight Vics' push for higher places, perhaps typified by their following-up of two convincing victories with a 5-1 loss at Lower Breck last time out.

They visit a Motors side playing at home for the sixth game in a row but on a current run of four straight losses in all competitions.

In the First Division South, Barnton will be looking to avoid a third straight home loss when they welcome Alsager Town.

The Villagers' past two games have seen Cammell Laird and Maine Road leave Townfield with all three points, so Liam Page's men will be aiming to bounce back.

The visitors arrive sitting one point and one place above the relegation zone.
