A STUNNING bowling display from Rob Jones moved Over Peover CC to the brink of the league title on Saturday.

Jones claimed seven wickets for just five runs to inspire his side to a crushing 127-run victory at Trafford Metrovics, who were dismissed for just 21.

It means victory over neighbours and nearest rivals Holmes Chapel at Wellbank Lane on Saturday will clinch the Cheshire Cricket League Division 3-4 NE title.

Batting first, Peover made a watchful start as openers Dave Owen and Stephen Price eased their way in against an accurate Trafford attack.

Price proved to be the mainstay of the innings, hitting 63 as wickets fell around him.

Ben Nightingale upped the scoring rate as he scored 25 but once he and Price were dismissed, the innings lost momentum.

Peover were eventually dismissed for 148 but in reply, Jones set about ripping through the Trafford batting order.

Fellow opening bowler Mark Nightingale took the other three wickets as Peover rattled through the hosts in less than 10 overs.

Bowling prowess was also the order of the day for the seconds as they dismissed Europa Exiles for just 89 in their match.

Rob Bagust (4-21) and Samuel Croxton (3-21) were the stars of the show with the ball, but the batsmen made a poor start to their chase.

However, Jim Shaw (25) and Samarjeet Kumar (23) ensured Peover eventually completed a three-wicket victory.
