WARRINGTON Town had their final run-out of pre-season on Saturday – and manager Paul Carden was pleased with what he saw.
Yellows played out a goalless draw with National League North outfit AFC Fylde at Cantilever Park in their last of nine pre-season friendlies.
It was Carden’s final chance to see his players in a match situation before Saturday’s Pitching In Northern Premier League opener at Basford United and he was happy with what they served up.
“I was happy with certainly the first half an hour,” he said.
“I thought we were good and we started the better team, when you consider Fylde are a full-time club.
“They have just dropped out of the Conference and have had a lot of success in recent seasons before the last one.
“I thought we were more than competitive with them and we had some good performances.”
Two trialist goalkeepers played 45 minutes each on Saturday and with five days remaining until the season opener, Carden says a decision on who will be Town’s permanent custodian is imminent.
“That’s in hand,” he said.
“We’ve had two keepers in who I would like to sign, it’s just a case of getting it done but it will be done.”
