GRASSROOTS football teams from across Northwich took part in a tournament on Sunday (August 16) as Moss Farm Leisure Centre.

The tournament, which was part funded by the town council, was attended by U14 and U15 boys and girls teams from Witton Albion, Cuddington, Northwich Victoria and Barnton football clubs.

Taking home the honours on the day were Northwich Vixens (U14 girls), Witton Albion Warriors (U14 boys and the Multiflex Academy side who took the U15 boys title.

Ross Speight, MD at Multiflex said: "It was great to see so many young grassroots footballers back on the pitch. Every player from every club represented their club’s impeccably.

"There were some fantastic teams on display and the future looks bright for mid Cheshire junior football.

"A big thank you to Chris Shaw and Liza Clansey at Northwich Town Council for supporting the event."

Further football sessions are being held throughout the summer, which have been funded by local Cheshire West and Chester Council councillors and the Police Crime Commissioners.

They are being held for both boys and girls of different ages groups on both Monday's and Friday's during the remainder of August, with another tournament taking place on Sunday (August 23) between 9am-12pm.

Cllr Bob Cernik said: "It’s great for the kids to let off steam and helps a lot to reduce incidents of antisocial behaviour.
