HELPING the next generation of young golfers is something that Peter Barber is extremely passionate about.

Based in Wincham, he is hoping to share his experience of more than 30 years on the fairway, including in the European Tour, in his new role at Dunham Forest Golf Club.

And he will be taking advantage of the excellent facilities at the club to offer advice and tips to the next generation of golfers to help them achieve their full potential.

Peter began his golf at Denton Golf Club, where he was the youngest winner of the Manchester and District Golf Alliance’s Scratch Knock Out.

After representing Lancashire and England Boys, he turned professional in 1973 and played on the European Tour for 12 years from 1975 to 1987.

During his time on the tour, he played in three Open Championships at Royal Lytham, Royal St George’s and St Andrews.

He was then professional at Didsbury Golf Club for 33 years until 2020, and during that time he was captain of the PGA North Region and the Manchester Alliance.

Peter has been the Cheshire County coach for 30 years and an England Boys regional coach for the past ten years.

He has also ventured into golf commentary on the radio and after-dinner speaking.

Speaking about his new role, Peter said: “I am now coaching at Dunham Forest Golf Club, which has great facilities including an indoor golf studio, practice range and short game area.

“The top-quality golf course is one of the best in Cheshire and I am still coaching both the England and Cheshire squads.

“I would like to thank Paul Dennis, the head professional at Dunham Forest, and manager Mike Saxon for giving me the opportunity to coach at such a top venue and making me so welcome at their great club.”
