DINO Maamria has bolstered his frontline with two new signings.

The Vics boss has opted for youthful exuberance in adding teenagers Lucas Akins and Nick Farquharson to his squad in time for Saturday's visit of Rushden and Diamonds.

He hopes to sign another player - a defender - before the end of today, Thursday.

Akins, 18, has signed on a month-long loan from League One outfit Huddersfield Town.

Top scorer for the Terriers' U18s team last season, he signed professional terms with his hometown team in April, but has yet to break into the first team set up.

Crewe Alexandra rookie Nick Farquharson is a name that should be familiar to football fans in Northwich.

The 19-year-old spent a spell on loan at Vics' neighbours Witton Albion at the end of last season, scoring twice in seven appearances.

He too penned pro forms over the summer but has only featured in one senior side since then.

His stay at the Victoria Stadium is also on loan terms until January.

A third signing, a full back, should be on board by tonight's loan transfer deadline.

The three newcomers will take the places of exiled trio Chris Williams, Paul Tait and Kevin Townson, all of whom have resisted the advances of Blue Square North clubs this week.
