FOOTBALL starlet Breeze Simmonds is taking the same path as the player he rates as the best in the Premier League, Trent Alexander-Arnold.

St Peter's Catholic Primary School student Breeze, 8, has signed his first contract with Liverpool FC and will join fellow under nines newcomers to the Premier League leaders' Academy when life settles down from the coronavirus pandemic.

Alexander-Arnold also came through the Anfield club's Academy and he spoke with striker Breeze, from Bruche, in a Zoom session at the time of the contract signing.

The Liverpool and England right-back also presented 'virtually' a number nine signed Liverpool shirt to the budding hotshot.

"Who's the best player you've discovered in the Premiership?" said Breeze to Alexander-Arnold, 21, who had been in Breeze's shoes 12 years earlier.

"There's so many. There's so many even at the club that could be the best player in the Premier League," replied Alexander-Arnold, a member of Liverpool's 2019 UEFA Champions League Final winning team and England's 2018 FIFA World Cup squad.

"It's hard to be able to choose one. But I'd say the best winger I've played against in the Prem would be Hazard.

"Who do you think is the best in the Premier League?"

And Breeze reduced the star to a humbled giggle when he replied: "You!"

In the session, Breeze was introduced to fellow budding Premier League stars by Liverpool FC commentator Steve Hunter as a player with a rocket of a right-foot shot.

"We welcome to Liverpool Football Club our new signing from Warrington, Breeze Simmonds," said Hunter.

"Breeze is incredibly difficult to stop when he's in the mood.

"He's powerful, he's quick, he's got a rocket of a shot, particularly the right foot. He will surely be a nightmare for goalkeepers across the country and abroad."

Breeze, who favoured Liverpool over other academies he had trained with at Manchester United, Manchester City and Everton, comes from a sporting family.

His grandfather Ray Fisher, the Warrington promoter, enjoyed success as a player and later as a manager of Tetley Walker FC, while his uncle Steven represented the BARLA under 18s rugby league team on a tour of Australia and also played for the Great Britain amateurs at under 21s level.

Breeze's cousin Chloe Fisher is currently two years into a university football scholarship in America.

Zoom training sessions with Liverpool coaches continue in his family's garden for the time being.
