WINNINGTON Park returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 37-12 win at Eccles.

Park started well and within minutes Jack Williams kicked the first points from a penalty.

The lead was short lived with Eccles’ backs putting it through hands for a try in the corner.

And 30 minutes later the hosts extended their lead with a converted try from the wingman.

Park kept their nerve and replied with a try after tapping a penalty for offside, with the backs turning the ball back into the forwards for Matt Treacy to score.

Then after winning a line out Park passed the ball out, where Dan Williams made ground before passing out to winger Nick Clawson to score in the corner. The kick was converted by Jack Williams.

The first half ended 12-17 and the travelling crowd were looking forward for a exciting second half.

Coach Farr made some changes tacking off Joe Cook who is having an impressive first season at senior rugby for Alex Glendinning.

Park were soon back on the score sheet with a cheeky kick through by Jack Williams for his brother Dan to run on to and sprint into the corner. Williams kicked a penalty

Cook came back on for Mike Eaves and Dave Cross came off for Cameron Heron, making his senior debut.

The changes did the trick and shortly after Nick Clawson was on the score sheet again after scrum half Matt Cross passed the ball out for Clawson to dance through two players to score in the corner.

Shaun Underdown, a prop forward who was everywhere, came off with an injury to be replaced with Archie Sanchez.

Park were not finished and with continued pressure on the Eccles line they tried to kick the ball down field this was charged down by Matt Treacy to collect the ball and go over the line for his second try,the kick was converted to end the game.

Coach Farr said: “ It was nice to get a win under our belts this is a tough league and today the lads got a little bit of belief back in themselves after a run of defeats.

“We have the ability in the team but they need to keep focused for the full 80 minutes which is something they have not been doing in recent games.

“Hopefully we have turned a corner but have some tough fixtures ahead of us in the coming weeks against the top sides.”
